3. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE

The UCAT is an aptitude test and yes, you can prepare for any aptitude test. Studies have shown that the more hours you put in to preparing for any aptitude test, the better your result will be. At the start, your score will improve slowly and when you have the knowledge and techniques honed, you will find that your score will have  greatly increased. First of all learn all about the UCAT, and then start by practicing with untimed questions. Next select the sections and types of questions where you are not scoring well, and really prioritise these questions. You will find with practice that you will quickly improve your score here. Don’t forget, however, that each section is important and do not let your focus be on one area for too much of your preparation. The last 2 weeks of your preparation should be very intense with exposure to mock exams close to your test date. Do not leave the mock tests in our Question bundle to the last day, as this is a very common mistake. We suggest that you leave a maximum of two tests for the day before the UCAT exam.

4. UCAT TIME MANAGEMENT

It is very important to do questions under timed conditions. You can start with one or two questions and develop it into greater number of questions so that you can adapt to  the speed required for answering the questions. Remember that time management is different for each section.

5. UCAT EXAM TECHNIQUE

This is an area that is often neglected by students and good exam technique will definitely improve your score. There are three areas of exam technique which are essential in your preparation
● Resilience
● Simulation where you can mimic test conditions
● Timing

6. UCAT QUESTION TYPES - KNOW THEM

Learn the strategy that is used in each question type and this will vastly help you with answering the question. It is by analysing and breaking down the question that helps you quickly work out what is really being asked.

7. UCAT APPROACH

This test may be totally new to you and it is easy to become stressed about it. Try not to focus too much on the score as it can lead to frustration. Remember that the mean score for 2019 and 2020 were 621 and 638 respectively.

8. MIMIC THE UCAT TEST

Sit the mock test in as similar a situation that you will experience on the test day, perhaps a library. Use the same resources that you will have on the test day. This will leave you less anxious and more comfortable going into the exam.  UCAT Question Bundle
